David Charbonnet joined the US Navy out of Texas, following in his father's footsteps. Like his father, he elected to attend BUD/S (Basic Underwater Demolition SEAL training). He graduated in 2010 with class 278. David was then assigned to SEAL Team 1 where he served for a year and a half.

In October of 2011, David was severely injured in a parachuting accident outside of San Diego. He sustained a burst fracture of the L1 leaving him paralyzed from the waist down. Following extensive surgery, David began rehab at the San Diego VIP Neurorehabilitation Center (VIP) just months after his injury and continues to this day. When Dr. Marcus , Founder of VIP, presented David with the opportunity to serve as VIP’s President, he whole-heartedly accepted the opportunity to help others in the same way VIP had helped him. David currently leads VIP as President and serves on its Board of Directors.

The San Diego VIP NeuroRehabilition Center has given David a renewed sense of purpose that he once lost when his career as a SEAL was taken from him. The opportunity to serve others is what gives David motivation to carry on! His team's focus is on those who have difficulty moving secondary to Stroke, Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Brain Injury, ALS, Cerebral Palsy, Spinal Cord Injury, and multiple traumas.
